That is so kind and thoughtful of you to say, Hanan and it means a lot to me.
I was going to delete this image (it sat with 5 favs or so for five years lol) but I decided to update it instead. I'm glad I didn't trash it....thanks very much

and now it has much success.
it proves how much success on dA has much to do with so much other factors than value of the image itself only. i say only, but not all.
sometimes we have to put things in perspective.
i find it too bad that when we do things out of our ordinary, our watchers are disoriented. not long ago i did some digital works (that i was very happy with :O) but not much liked :( )  they all wanted me to do my usual!
it's dangerous because it stops us from being creative and evolve as artists.

i'm also glad you didn't trash it.

I'm not sure how successful it is but it did gain a bit more interest from people and that makes me happy.
Precisely...DA, too often, is nothing more than a popularity thing. It's not what I expected when I first joined. Back then I was hoping for critical critiques about the work.
I hadn't been doing much "art stuff" for years because my job as a journalistic photographer (mainly sports) left me little time to go out for a change to shoot  the stuff that I wanted to shoot. So I wanted to see how out of tune I was and thought DA would tell me. And in many indirect ways it has
Lately I've found a little more time to devote to artistic pursuits. In summer I take more time off...but soon my nose will be back to the grindstone once again. Oh well, money (food)  must come first in the order of things
I saw them in your gallery and liked them. Even though they are different they still have your signature hook to them. I think we all should branch out into all the different studies of photography. Signature styles are very cool and can carry over to the different genres but nothing is more boring to me to look at and or to shoot..than the same subject over and over again. I'm too A.D.D. for that ever to happen though.
That is so true...evolve is a must. Best to be forever changing...and learning it all along the way.

yes, like i expected, you're a professional, that is obvious from your work.
dA is too... social to be helpful on the critical side.  very soon, people become friend, or friendly, and it becomes difficult to criticize as it can be seen as rude. it has to be done in more anonymous places than dA i think.
we're here members of a community, we know each others more than (i am sure) we know our colleagues at works or even members of our families sometimes. so critiques, even of artworks, would be taken personnally.

yes, you have this dilemma, work Vs art, that we amateurs don't have !!
i work totally on instinct.
not that i don't take it seriously. i do, but on an emotionaal level, more than any other thing. i do art to survive, mostly. it helps me keep my sanity, my balance. i'd be a very bad professional i think!  :D

You've articulated that so well...people are too sensitive. And many times they try to get too personal for my likings. I don't really care too much about what people had for breakfast today. I'm a very private person in many ways and will go to great lengths to protect that right. I'd rather discuss the work and how it came about then how many children I have and what their names are. Knowing the technical details of how an image was accomplished isn't so important either but it can be inspiring to hear sometimes. From this knowledge we could grow artistically.
Professionals don't have the option of saying I don't feel inspired today. Clients don't want to hear that. Can you imagine that on the day of the surgery that will save your life, your doctor says, "Hey, I don't feel inspired today."
We must PRODUCE day in and day out no matter how we feel. And how well we produce will determine how long we will last in this game. One thing about the job is that I haven't met a pro photographer yet who hates their job. We love what we do and that usually will be reflected in the images we gather each day. There is a  certain pride we feel when we've "got the shot". Or shots.
I understand you perfectly...something has to "click" (the pun really wasn't intended but it works lol) inside you. For example depression is great when its channeled towards creative visual expressions.
One never knows what they can and can't do until they at least try it for awhile.

i'm sure photographers do love their job, they are lucky this way! but i can assure you doctors have days when they are not inspired :D i know,  i'm a dentist and surgeon myself, and i had so many of those days, but once i begin one of those 4 hours full mouth operations on a 3 year old unconscious kid,  whatever state i was before, i feel totally inspired after the first 10 minutes.  still, in my every day practice, yes, i used to dream of being out there taking picture... and... being payed for it (important part of the dream!)
being a professional artist on the other hand, is quite a different thing. "artist" isn't being a profession, maybe a definition of the self, or more like a perception. who says we are an artist. surely not the fact that we sell or not sell our art, live or not live by our art.

so yes... i'd like to be a professional in an artistic related job, it would be a plus.
but i already have depression  why am i complaining ?

:lmao: Ahh I know your dilemma well. My sister is also a dentist with her own practice and knowing her I know there must be many times she'd rather be anywhere else then doing a root-canal or something. So yes...your point was well taken...people in all professions have good and bad days for sure but must dam the torpedoes regardless.
It's a human thing to think the grass is greener on the other side of the fence. But photography is something that will stay with you for forever. So who knows what you'll do when you retire from dentistry.
I definitely like and agree with what you said about being an artist. It's in their make-up to be such like fish to water. Easily taking it for granted same as we do for breathing.
 Depression is underrated
