My mom on her wedding day. Perhaps one of the happiest days of her life. That is until I was born of course. Although my three brothers and two sisters would argue that point. I feel I was her favorite because oh how I could make her laugh. I'd have her to a point in which she'd cry out through tears of laughter, "Richard! Please stop…you're making my belly ache."
Yes she was my number one fan and now she is gone forever except for the memories, the photographs and a million and one pieces of her life packed away in boxes now. I miss her so.
Today, Jan 6th, is Little Christmas and in our home we've celebrated it for my whole life. Little Christmas is also called Women's Christmas (Irish: Nollaig na mBan), and sometimes Women's Little Christmas. The tradition is so called because of the Irish men taking on all the household duties for the day. Most women hold parties or go out to celebrate the day with their friends, sisters, aunts, and mothers. Children often buy presents for their mothers and grandmothers.
And so in the spirit of that observance I offer this present to my mom and to all who have had loved ones pass over the rainbow in recent years.
Obviously I did not take this photo because at the time it was made I wasn't even a twinkle in my mother's eye. I don't know the photographer or studio who took this wonderful photograph but I thank them and hope they understand that my mother isn't answering any more questions these days…and I have so many I need to ask her. But alas I'll have to wait 'till its my turn to leave this precious place called life.
